The Tiernan brothers were born beside the river Moy the best salmon river in Ireland. They have never strayed too far from it's banks. Fishing is and has always been their abiding passion. Today they run an Angling advice centre and Gillie service from the house where they were born. In doing so they are continuing an association that can be traced back through generations of their family. Martin Tiernan was described by Author Hi Regan as "one of the foremost Fly dressers in Ireland" in his classic angling manual "How and Where to fish in Ireland". This book was first published in1886. As children P J and Michael fished the river Moy ,Loughs Conn and Cullen and other local fisheries; carefully guided by their father and uncles in all aspects and traditions of angling.
Mayo Angling Advice Centre (Tiernan Bros) is situated in upper main street, Foxford 20 yards from the banks of the Moy. Here the visiting angler can arrange Licences Permits,Gillies,Boats, Boatmen,and Rodhire. The centre is well stocked with all the most popular flies,spinners,baits,and anything the angler might require. It is independent of any fishery , has access to all and the angler can be assured of honest and informed advice on the whole Mayo area. The Tiernan Bros are here to stay.
